{"id":22,"date":"2007-10-21T14:10:31","date_gmt":"2007-10-21T18:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scripts.mit.edu\/~espeed\/blog\/2007\/10\/21\/the-future-is-now\/"},"modified":"2007-10-25T01:50:53","modified_gmt":"2007-10-25T05:50:53","slug":"the-future-is-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/2007\/10\/21\/the-future-is-now\/","title":{"rendered":"The future is now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So this post is a long time coming and I apologize for not writing more, but to be honest I&#8217;m always extremely busy, and never really have enough time to do anything.\u00a0 The topic of this post will be the future, and how I&#8217;m preparing for it.\u00a0 Topics include, The changing of my major, and job prospects.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I changed my major at the beginning of the semester.\u00a0 I&#8217;m no longer an up and coming electrical engineer.\u00a0 I want to say I switched to Philosophy or English; you know, every parent&#8217;s nightmare.\u00a0 (Philosophy and English majors, put down the torches, I was only joking.)\u00a0 But alas, I have nothing as funny as that to describe.\u00a0\u00a0To be fair, I only switched to a different part of the same major.\u00a0 I went from 6.1 Electrical Engineering to 6.3 Computer Science.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The reasons for this change are somewhat complicated but revolve around\u00a02 things.\u00a0 I like EE and CS both quite a bit, and I think CS is more fun.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t get me wrong spitting out matlab simulations isn&#8217;t horrible, but it doesn&#8217;t have the flair of writing some really awesome software.\u00a0 Plus, it seems to me that working conditions which fit my personality are heavily weighted in the CS field.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t really want to spend my life in some lab in the basement of Intel or something, and I want to avoid academia.\u00a0 CS is a good mix, has some good prospects and it&#8217;s something I enjoy doing.<\/p>\n<p>Next summer, I&#8217;m not quite sure what I&#8217;ll be doing.\u00a0 I might go to Japan to work, or possibly I&#8217;ll stay here teach again, work on some special projects.\u00a0 There are also other places of much win, cool places like Facebook and the like.\u00a0 Only the future knows, but I&#8217;ll be pretty excited when I get there.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I&#8217;ll put pictures up eventually.\u00a0 Hopefully, within the next month.\u00a0 I have other interesting things to blog about but those I&#8217;ll save for another day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So this post is a long time coming and I apologize for not writing more, but to be honest I&#8217;m always extremely busy, and never really have enough time to do anything.\u00a0 The topic of this post will be the future, and how I&#8217;m preparing for it.\u00a0 Topics include, The changing of my major, and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[],"tags":[9,13,8,5],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=22"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=22"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=22"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/erekspeed.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=22"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
