The future is now

So this post is a long time coming and I apologize for not writing more, but to be honest I’m always extremely busy, and never really have enough time to do anything.  The topic of this post will be the future, and how I’m preparing for it.  Topics include, The changing of my major, and job prospects.

I changed my major at the beginning of the semester.  I’m no longer an up and coming electrical engineer.  I want to say I switched to Philosophy or English; you know, every parent’s nightmare.  (Philosophy and English majors, put down the torches, I was only joking.)  But alas, I have nothing as funny as that to describe.  To be fair, I only switched to a different part of the same major.  I went from 6.1 Electrical Engineering to 6.3 Computer Science.

The reasons for this change are somewhat complicated but revolve around 2 things.  I like EE and CS both quite a bit, and I think CS is more fun.  Don’t get me wrong spitting out matlab simulations isn’t horrible, but it doesn’t have the flair of writing some really awesome software.  Plus, it seems to me that working conditions which fit my personality are heavily weighted in the CS field.  I don’t really want to spend my life in some lab in the basement of Intel or something, and I want to avoid academia.  CS is a good mix, has some good prospects and it’s something I enjoy doing.

Next summer, I’m not quite sure what I’ll be doing.  I might go to Japan to work, or possibly I’ll stay here teach again, work on some special projects.  There are also other places of much win, cool places like Facebook and the like.  Only the future knows, but I’ll be pretty excited when I get there.

I’ll put pictures up eventually.  Hopefully, within the next month.  I have other interesting things to blog about but those I’ll save for another day.

  1. Hey dude, finally got around to visiting this deal again. Haven’t read the past posts yet. Can see that software is way cooler than
doping NAND gates in a lab. Hope the Japanese thing and the software thing coalesce in the future. Mom’s house(s) was/were in a state of
disarray from the moving process. They hope to be moved completely in a couple of weeks. Expect another delivery of famous portraits soon.
