The future is now

Filed under: Uncategorized — espeed @ 2:10 pm — Tags:

So this post is a long time coming and I apologize for not writing more, but to be honest I’m always extremely busy, and never really have enough time to do anything.  The topic of this post will be the future, and how I’m preparing for it.  Topics include, The changing of my major, and job prospects.

Back in the United States

I meant to write this closer to getting back, but of course I had to deal with all sorts of things upon my arrival.

This will be the last substantive post relating to this Japan visit, although I will add a scattering of new posts to make you all aware of pictures I’ve uploaded to some place on the internet. (more…)

Tokyo National Museum and the Ghibli Museum (Two sides of Tokyo)

Filed under: Uncategorized — espeed @ 4:41 am — Tags:

Over the last few days I’ve visited the titular museums, and I must say they certainly do depict different sides of Tokyo.

The first museum I visited was the TNM, using my nifty MIT ID to get a discount. Ironically, enough, I wonder how the guard knew it was legit. (more…)

FujiQ Highland (or The interesting Persepective of Mt. Fuji whilst upside down)

Filed under: Uncategorized — espeed @ 2:25 pm — Tags:

So, I decided to do more cultural research yesterday, and this research I decided would be best done at an amusement park. It’s obvious that to truly observe a culture you have to see them uninhibiited. And while it’s hard to catch a Japanese person off guard, I think I managed it at least a few times amidst the various attractions of FujiQ Highland, a theme park just a stone’s throw from the majestic beauty Mt. Fuji.

Yoshida no Hi Matsuri

Filed under: Uncategorized — espeed @ 11:12 am — Tags:

So I went to my first true Japanese festival yesterday and it was pretty cool experience. The tradition was heavy in the air, and then the festive spirit was also heavy in the air. It was sort of nice to experience what I’d seen many times in various media, but maybe that also means it’s lost some of that mysterious magic. (more…)

A random look at things Japanese (K’s House Mt. Fuji)

Filed under: Uncategorized — espeed @ 2:42 pm — Tags:

I don’t really have any great stories to enthrall the masses with.  That’s part of the reason I’ve not updated in awhile.  The topics of the my ranting today shall include all sorts of interesting (not interesting) things.  Including, Japanese nature, the place I’m staying, and maybe crime (not). Headphones are important!! (inner ear for the win)

Filed under: Uncategorized — espeed @ 2:30 pm — Tags:

This post has nothing to do with Japan, in essence.  Go figure.

When people consider there sound listening preferences, most of the time the emphasis is placed on the device.   I don’t want to downplay that.  Picking out the right walkingman or ipod or whatever is important.  You have to make sure the device matches your preferences and what you do and all that.  However, an almost equally important decision is what you use to get the sound from your nifty little device to your ears. Hiroshima

Filed under: Uncategorized — espeed @ 11:56 am — Tags:

So, I went to Hiroshima for a day essentially and it was a pretty good trip.

As usual this post will include some random tidbits about things I noticed during the time period it covered. Including, but not limited to, train travel (and being older), food, and losing things. (more…)

Comiket and Strawberries

Filed under: Uncategorized — espeed @ 9:04 am — Tags:

I need to start getting up earlier in general.  It’s really a part of my sleeping with other people.  I tend not to get up when other people are sleeping, because I think I’ll bother them.  But I’m trying to get over that.  They certainly don’t afford me the same courtesy.  In fact I’m pretty sure for the most part, everyone except the Japanese are inherently rude.

So today all I did was went to Comiket for a few hours.  (more…)

b-boy park

Filed under: Uncategorized — espeed @ 8:46 am — Tags:

Friday I pretty much chilled.  I have a headache which is annoying me. Today, I came back to Tokyo, and went to a bit of b-boy park 2007.  It was pretty awesome.  Basically,  it’s a bunch of hip hop of the Japanese variety.  The rappers were pretty good, the skate boarders were really not impressive, the graffiti was pretty awesome as well.  Probably the best part of it though were the break dancers, they had this cool little stage for them doing all sorts of cool dance moves.  I have some pretty good videos possibly.

Tomorrow is Comiket.  Big fan made comics convention.  I’ll let you know how it goes.
